Sharon Dunas's "Heal Your Brain" Team
Westside Los Angeles (NAMI WLA) has been a big part of my life since 2005. I grew up with unstable parents and had a child who after high school was seriously ill with brain issues. NAMI has educated me and helped me not to feel alone and isolated. NAMI is a community we can count on where our family has a mental health crisis!!

Join Sharon Dunas's "Heal Your Brain" Team and donate to raise fund for NAMI Los Angeles (NAMI WLA). It is a local non-profit affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental health conditions.
NAMI Westside is thrilled to kick off Mental Health Awareness Month in May with our first annual Westside Wellness Weekend and a month of events, a fundraiser that will allow us to continue offering our community the many FREE resources we all need now more than ever.
We’re also hoping to have some fun along the way! Join Sharon Dunas's "Heal Your Brain" Team and record yourself enjoying the positive coping strategy that’s helped you get through the pandemic (and could also be helping you deal with any #FONO (Fear of Normal) you might be experiencing as the world slowly opens up again). All vibes welcome!

Patty's Team in Honor of the memory of Toby
Patty's Team in Honor of the Memory of Toby
For many years. Toby and I did the Walk to support our local NAMI Affiliate. Because of Covid restrictions and knowing that our community needs direct support, this year NAMI Westside LA is pivoting from the Walk and created a website to “Show Your Positive Coping Skills”. It is a friendly challenge to raise funds to support NAMI WLA in providing resources to raise awareness, fight the stigma around mental illness and to provide support groups and classes. The Patty’s Team to Honor the Memory of Toby photo is of him last year having won first prize for the second year for “Best Doggie Attire” at the NAMIWALK.

TEAM BENTZEN
When the going gets tough, the tough go SKIING!
If I've given you this link and asked you to chip in, you probably know my story and the struggles I've had raising a son with Schizophrenia. You can make a donation here, BUT I would LOVE it if you add a video of your own or even just a selfie of how you Cope with all the stress that's been going on...
Scroll down or over to the BIG BLUE JOIN THE CHALLENGE BUTTON and add your video (or pic). I've volunteered to 'captain' this team for my favorite people and this non-profit organization that at one time saved my life. If that sounds hyperbolic, it's not. This fundraiser is to raise funds for NAMI, specifically NAMI Westside Los Angeles.

Team Bentzen strikes again! I hope you all enjoy this great new virtual way of raising funds. Typically NAMI has local Walk-A-Thons to raise money, but with the pandemic, it is all but impossible to have a physical fundraiser. We're hoping this works as well, or possibly even better by creating a competition among our members to see who can do the best at outraising the 'competition'...

Join my Team to raise money for NAMI Westside Los Angeles (NAMI WLA) which has helped our family and so many others in so many ways! The Support Groups helped us with ending the stigma and finding resources and continues to unite us through kindness, understanding, and advocacy.
NAMI WLA is our local non-profit affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental health conditions. NAMI Westside is celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month in May with our first annual Westside Wellness Weekend, a fundraiser that will allow us to continue offering our community the many FREE resources we all need now more than ever.
We’re also hoping to have some fun along the way! Join Team 12th Street and record yourself enjoying the positive coping strategy that’s helped you get through the pandemic (and could also be helping you deal with any #FONO (Fear of Normal) you might be experiencing as the world slowly opens up again). All vibes welcome!

Team Adrian and Lauren
Balancing the emotional rollercoaster that comes with being a mental health advocate can feel overwhelming isolating at times. This is why I, along with my NAMI family, use positive coping strategies to help revitalize us in our quest to end the stigma surrounding brain illnesses and to keep us going in our pursuit to change our broken mental health care systems and provide life-changing outlets and resources for mental health awareness in our country.
My latest positive coping strategy is being a puppy mom to Georgie, 3 months, who loves to sleep and play almost as much as she loves kissing the refrigerator in hopes of it magically opening to grant access to the chicken inside of it. This little face has provided endless joy and happiness on days when I feel defeated. Now I want to know: what are some of your positive coping strategies?!
